This week’s review is actually not so much about a comic but a website, Tales from the Border which is the home of artist and writer Andrew Sztehlo. I found it via the Folk Horror Revival group on Facebook, where Andrew had shared his rather lovely comic of the poem ‘Spellbound’ by Emily Bronte.
I fancied something different to check out with my morning coffee so I headed over to check the comic out but ended up reading half the website as his thoughtful, informative writing drew me in too. At the end of Spellbound, he describes his relationship with the author’s work, how it has touched and inspired him. I like that, done right, new work accompanying older work by someone else can bring both to the attention of a wider audience.
He also reviews things he loves, writes about his life and offers illustration alongside fiction and opinion pieces. I’ll be watching for more of his posts – in the meantime I suggest you treat yourself and check out Tales from the Border.
Karen is a full time artist living in Whitby (perfect location for a horror fan). Her own monsters have taken over to the point where they actually have their own closet space and so she takes refuge in books and films, some of which she’d like to share with you.
